Special School Sport and Para Games
P&G Surrey School Games 2012
The Surrey Special School Sports Association coordinate a range of sport events that are incorporated into the P&G Surrey School Games programme.
These events provide opportunities for young people in special schools to participate in competitive activity in the following sports:
Athletics
Badminton
Basketball
Cross-Country
Cricket
Football
Netball
Tag Rugby
Uni Hoc
Para Games
The P&G Surrey School Games also provides an opportunity for both young people within special schools and children with disabilities within mainstream schools to participate in sport through the Para Games. The Para Games is a one day festival where young people get to try their hand at a range of sports.
Para Games 2011
Olympic fever took over the Xcel leisure centre in Walton Upon Thames on Tuesday 10th of May 2011 as over 100 young people from Surrey schools participated in an action packed day of activities including; Athletics, football, badminton, cricket and golf.
The first ever Surrey Para Games day provided an opportunity for children with learning and physical difficulties to experience there very own Paralympic style games, The participants aged between 11 and 19 competed in a series of events for their chance to secure a place in the medal positions and follow in the footsteps of there sporting heroes.
The day was made more memorable for the young people by team GB’s very own Paralympic bronze medallist Vicki Hansford who made a special appearance and not only helped to encourage the children but also inspired them to chase there sporting dreams.
