The Olympic Flame is coming to Surrey

Details about the route that the Olympic Torch Relay will take have been announced by Olympics organisers the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), and Surrey residents will have a number of opportunities to catch a glimpse as the flame makes its way through the county.

The county will play host to the Oympic Torch Relay on a number of dates throughout July:

Tuesday 10 July - Egham

Tuesday 17 July - Felbridge

Friday 20 July - Godstone, Bletchingley, Redhill, Reigate, Dorking, Westcott, Shere, Godalming and finishing with an evening celebration event at Stoke Park in Guildford

Friday 27 July - Olympic Torch in the Hampton Court area

About the Flame

The Olympic Torch is lit in Olympia, Greece by using a mirror and the reflection of the sun, once it is lit it will travel briefly around Greece before making its journey to the United Kingdom for a 70 day tour of the UK. On 27 July the Torch will reach the Olympic Stadium before lighting the cauldron which will signify the start of the London 2012 Games.
