London 2012 in Surrey

In the summer of 2012 the greatest show on earth came to Surrey with the London 2012 Olympic Games. Excitement spread across the country from the first weekend of the Games as hundreds of thousands of spectators lined Surrey's streets to cheer British Olympians to medal wins in the Olympic Cycling Road Races and Time Trials.

Both Surrey events saw medal success for Team GB, with Lizzie Armitstead taking Silver in the women's Road Race and Bradley Wiggins building on his Tour de France success with a Gold in the men's Time Trial. Bradley’s teammate Chris Froome also won Bronze in the Time Trials, which meant that in total, Team GB took a quarter of all available Road Cycling medals.
