Inspire Mark Projects

Theatre Meadows

Theatre Meadows was a project which enabled young people (aged between 14-25) the opportunity to programme and organise a three day festival of professional theatre and circus performances and workshops. The festival took place during Open Weekend 2010 in a big top circus tent in meadowland adjacent to the Farnham Maltings. Five groups, of between five and 20 young people, from different backgrounds were given support to research professional theatre companies, programme a professional performance within a budget, and negotiate with the company. Representatives from each group formed an events team who had overall responsibility for the event.

Summer Shorts

The Woking Dance Festival is held every two years.  Summer Shorts was the festival's new programme of outdoor dance created for Open Weekend 2010.  The programme featured Dance Theatre Ireland performing ‘Block Party’ plus Srishti, Karen Da Silva,  other professionally led dance performances from the DeVyne Dancers and performances from youth dance groups.  Participants learnt new creative dance skills and worked with professional artists to develop new performances to be performed to large numbers of people in an outdoor setting.

Flag Exchange Project

Directed by Surrey artist, Jonathan Parsons, the project International Flag Exchange saw schools from across the county, with partner schools from around the globe, invited to design and make flags that represent their respective communities.  Through this project children explored issues of identity and their place within the world.  The 112 unique and newly created flags were displayed on traditional flag poles and used to decorate the Celebrating Surrey festival site and will be used again in further community celebrations leading up to the 2012 Games.

Great Grans Games

Surrey based theatre company Pied Piper have been awarded the Inspire Mark for their new play ‘Great Gran’s Games’ written by Mike Kenny. The play will soon be touring schools, theatres, arts centres and even swimming pools, and forms part of the company's Cultural Olympiad offering.
