How you can be part of it

The London 2012 Games will be a great opportunity for us to celebrate our national heritage, sporting excellence and cultural richness.

Join in the biggest ever celebration of cycling in Surrey in 2012 by helping other people have fun on a bike!

British Cycling is looking to train Ride Leaders to deliver local community led-rides in Surrey.

Our Ride Leaders are keen and confident cyclists who inspire others to get more out of their riding, and have fun. As a qualified Ride Leader you’ll get a recognised qualification and be able to plan, deliver and evaluate rides to groups of beginner and intermediate level, children or adults, as part of the Sky Ride Local program. Working as a team, you will receive branded clothing, training, support and payment for delivering our Sky Ride Local bike rides.

There are still places remaining on free, one day, practical based, training sessions near Woking and Guildford on the 5 and 26 of May. A further training day will run on the 21 July in another part of the county.

Rides will run in and close to the location where training is delivered, so you must be available and willing to lead a minimum of four rides in Surrey, on Sundays, from July onwards. You will be expected to use your own bike and helmet.

  • Surrey Ambassadors volunteering scheme - Applications are now closed
A number of enthusiastic local volunteers have applied to help at Olympic events taking place in Surrey. We will post all the latest information on the next stages of the application process.
  • Active Surrey
Active Surrey can help you find volunteering opportunities if you want to get involved in other areas of sports volunteering.

If the Surrey Ambassadors scheme has given you the volunteering bug, or if it is too much of a time commitment for you, Active Surrey are delivering the Sport Makers programme. The programme will help deliver a lasting legacy for sport in this country following on from the Olympics and Paralympics by supporting more adults to help get their friends, family and colleagues more active.
