The Tate Movie Project
Budding filmmakers from St Joseph's Catholic School, Guildford were given the chance to take part in the unique nationwide 'Tate Movie' project in July. As part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, the Tate Movie projectuses great pieces of art to inspire 5-13 year olds nationwide to contribute their ideas to this animated movie, made by and for children across the UK.
Travelling across the UK to 55 locations in in the Tate Movie Project Truck, the project will visit primary schools, family events and festivals. The truck doubles as a state of the art creative learning studio, which unfolds into a fully functioning workshop complete with computers and screening facilities.
With assistance from Aardman Animations, the children from St Joseph's introduced to film making by getting involved in creating hand-drawn characters and plot twists, designing costumes and creating sound effects. The youngsters submitted their ideas online via the Tate Movie website, and with assistance from the animated director Ronnie they got their creative juices flowing and made exciting additions to the movie. You can see examples of the children's creations on the Tate Move Project Gallery.
The Tate Movie Project will continue to tour various places across the UK until March 2011 in an effort to get over 1 million children involved in the project. See the full list of tour dates.
Supported by CBBC, the Legacy Trust, Tate and BP, the movie is set to be released during the summer of 2011. Proving that the 2012 Games isn't just about sport, the Tate Movie Project is engaging children in exciting creative and cultural activities in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
