Make the most of the cycling events

We are expecting over one million spectators to watch Surrey’s Olympic cycling events and we want as many businesses as possible to maximise this opportunity.

The influx of visitors will create a high demand for accommodation, food, drink and merchandise.

We are estimating 20% of visitors will be from abroad. They will be enjoying a holiday of a lifetime and may want to shop for souvenirs, or to try experiences that they can’t have back home that we can offer here in Surrey.

Take a look at your local district or borough council website for advice on making the most of the opportunities the Games will present.

What have other businesses done?

Read our case studies of how businesses used the London-Surrey Cycle Classic (test event) on 14 August 2011 to their advantage.

  • Newspaper distribution company in Elmbridge
This organisation displayed information about the race in their offices weeks in advance to alert their drivers. They arranged for vehicles to do their rounds early, and to drop them off in a secure parking place inside the route as they knew that they could not get back to the depot after road closures took place.

  • A pub in Mole Valley
The pub has a large car pack so the owner put on free parking for visitors who bought a breakfast at the pub. They also contacted all the local cycling clubs so that they could take up the offer on the way to watch the event.

  • Clothes shop in Dorking
The shop did a special window display of vintage cycling clothing that sold out within days.

  • High Street solicitors -  plans for 2012
This solicitors office are planning to hold a VIP party for clients, so that they can watch the race live as it goes past their window.
