World record broken for the largest human Olympic rings
On 23 June George Abbot School pupils and a number of guests proudly broke the world record for the largest human Olympic rings. Setting the record at 1,900 people, the event saw a celebration of the 400-day countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games and also marked the end of the 2011 P&G Surrey School Games. Team GB athletes and the London 2012 mascots Wenlock and Mandeville were also there to show their support.

Nigerian Olympic team to train in Surrey
On 24 June 2011 representatives from the Nigerian Olympic Committee and Surrey signed an agreement that will see the Nigerian team train within the county prior to London 2012. The Nigerian visitors were delighted with Surrey's excellent training facilities and are aiming to make an impact in the London 2012 Games.

Olympic Cycle Race – Drop In Sessions
The London-Surrey Cycle Classic is taking place this August in Surrey. Prior this Surrey County Council along representatives from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Surrey Highways and district and borough councils will be hosting drop in sessions for local residents and businesses to ask questions and find out more about the up and coming Olympic Cycling events.

Open Weekend 2011
From 22 to 24 July 2011 Surrey will join in a nationwide celebration of one year to go until the Olympic Games kick starts in 2012. Throughout the county there will be a number of events for people of all ages and interests to join in. From go-karting to exploring Surrey's golfing history, the excitement will be generated to Surrey's residents through a number of schemes. Over 50 Surrey schools and colleges are 'Get Set' for London 2012
The number of schools and colleges in Surrey getting involved with London 2012 is growing. So far there are over 50 schools and colleges that have joined the 'Get Set' education network. Find out more about how Surrey's children and young people will potentially benefit from the values of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Blog from Surrey Young Leaders
In 2011 Surrey's members for the volunteering scheme the 'Young Leaders Programme' have applied their skills in a number of projects that have benefited their local communities. In addition to eventually volunteering at the London 2012 Games, the young leaders have enhanced their own lives through a number of exciting volunteering projects in the build up to the Games. Surrey Young Leaders Fran Strange, Alice Gibbs and Tanya Kemp report on their progress and how this has made an impact on their lives.
