London 2012 Inspire mark gets Surrey toddlers talking
In the closing of 2011, Surrey ECAT (Every Child a Talker) Communication Decathlon was granted the Inspire Mark by the London 2012 Inspire programmme. This recognises exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the 2012 Games.
Each month, for ten months, Surrey Early Years and Childcare Service email an ECAT Communication Decathlon task to over 2000 early education providers in Surrey. The tasks range from Shot Put – How far can you throw a wellie? to Javelin – How far can you throw a paper plane? They have been specifically designed to help develop the language and communication skills of under fives.
In the first five years, children learn more about speaking and words than at any other time. Children need good speaking and listening skills to learn and these fun tasks help to develop their language and communication skills through play.
Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said:
“The Inspire programme is ensuring the legacy of the 2012 Games starts now as projects like the Surrey ECAT Communication Decathlon are enabling people in Surrey to make positive life changes.”
