Surrey sports awards 2010
Rounding off a year of sporting success, the prestigious Denbies Wine Estate hosted the Surrey Sports Awards. Sponsoring the event, Surrey County Council's Cllr Denise Saliagopoulos presented the award of Young Sports personality of the year to Chobham runner Georgia Peel. As well as the awards ceremony the event featured an inspirational speech from Paralympian Vicki Hansford.
Surrey athletics volunteer taster project
From 22 November to 5 December the South Surrey Athletics Network will be running its volunteering taster project. Participating sports clubs across the county will be looking to induct potential volunteers over this two-week period. Find out more how you can be involved.
British hockey stars see off Argentina
Along with British team-mates, Surbiton hockey players competed in two matches against tough Argentinean opposition. After drawing 2-2 in their first match, the British team were able to secure a 3-2 win in the second match through a last minute winning goal by former Surbiton striker Rob Moore.
Surrey Sports Awards
The fourth annual instalment of the Surrey Sports Awards will take place at the prestigious Denbies Wine Estate on the 25 November. Awards will include'Young sports personality of the year' sponsored by Surrey County Council's 2012 team. Presented by Councillor Denise Saliagopoulos, the award will be one of fourteen celebrating sporting success from Surrey in 2010.
Synchronised swimmers raise over £4,000 for charity fundraiser
Surrey swimmers Jenna Randall, Asha Randall, Vicky Lucas and Lauren smith performed routines at the recent Splash for Cash fund raising event. Along with their other Team GB teammates, the synchronised swimming team raised over £4,000 for charities Help for Heroes and the Rushmore Mallards Disability Group.
Surbiton hockey stars to take on Argentina
In their first international match since the 2010 Commonwealth Games, English and Scottish hockey players have reunited to represent Great Britain in two test matches against Argentina. Included in the Great Britain squad are Surbiton HC players Richard Alexander, Matt Daly and James Tindall.
Surrey synchronised swimmers selected to represent Great Britain in 2011
Following success in 2010 including double Silver medals at the Commonwealth Games, Jenna Randall from Camberley has been selected to represent Great Britain in numerous events in 2011. Jenna's sister Asha and Frimley residents Vicky Lucas and Lauren Smith have also been confirmed in the 2011 British synchro team.
Silver for Andrew-Triggs Hodge at the World Rowing Championships
Molesey Boat Club member Andrew-Triggs Hodge adds another medal to his tally of success. After winning Gold in Beijing and Silver at the 2009 World Rowing Championships, Hodge and team-mate Pete Reed scare hosts New Zealand at the 2010 World Rowing Championships. The race generated huge excitement from the crowd as the British team took 2nd place in the nail baiting, photo-finish final in the men's pairs competition.
List of Surrey Athletes at the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games
Two years on since the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing, a list of Surrey athletes who represented Great Britain at these games has been published. Many of these athletes achieved medal success with a total of nine medals for Olympians associated with the county and eight medal wins for Surrey's Paralympians.
Gold, silver and bronze for Surrey swimmer Louise Watkin
Merstham swimmer Louise Watkin repeated her 2009 triple medal success by achieving gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2010 IPC World Swimming Championships in Eindhoven. With regular appearances on the medal podium (including three bronze and one slver at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics), Louise has proven herself to be a key athlete to watch at London 2012.
Over 240,000 apply 2012 volunteering opportunities
The deadline for applying for Games Maker volunteering roles has now closed. Early indications are showing that over 240,000 applications have been received. Applicants will now be short listed for interviews which will take place from February 2011 to February 2012.

Surrey County Council’s Coordinator for 2012 Games Helen Bridgman has made a recent visit to the Olympic Park in London. Along with the South East Partnership and Olympic legend Jonathan Edwards, Helen was guided around the park and viewed the construction of the iconic arenas and stadiums. Olympic tickets for children and young people
Following the recent announcement of Olympic ticket prices, LOCOG have launched further ticket schemes giving children and young people an opportunity to enjoy the games in 2012. Tickets have been allocated for the Ticketshare and Pay your Age schemes, both schemes offer affordable ticket prices that will benefit young people across the UK.
Commonwealth sucess for Surrey athletes
As the English team returns to home soil after competing in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Surrey is celebrating a number of medals and great efforts in the Games, from shooting to synchronised swimming. Many of the Surrey athletes wowed the crowds in Delhi and proved themselves to be key competitors to watch out for at the 2012 Olympic Games.
