2012 P&G Surrey School Games gets off to a great start
The launch of the 2012 P&G Surrey School Games took place on 20 January at ACS Cobham International School.
Surrey County Council (SCC) Cabinet Member Denise Saliagopoulos opened the launch followed by a dance performance from Woolmer Hill School students and a speech from Ali Oliver of the Youth Sports Trust. David Smith, head teacher of Winston Churchill School and chair of the Local Organising Committee, lead an excellent question and answer session with GB athletes Rachel Morris and Dave Daniell which was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the guests including children from primary, secondary and special schools.
Taster sessions and performances
After the opening address, guests had the opportunity to participate in a number of taster sessions such as archery, basketball, boccia and dodgeball. London 2012 mascots Wenlock and Mandeville also attended the launch, interacting with young people whilst they rotated round the activities that were on offer. After a performance by St. Dunstan’s School Choir before Chairman of Surrey Countu Council, Lavinia Sealy, closed the event.
2012 P&G Surrey School Games
The launch marks the start of the P&G Surrey School Games where over 50 events will take place across 150 days.
There are a number of new and exciting events for schools to enter including archery, cycling and dodgeball. Registration for these competitions is open until the 20 February. There will also be an illustration, creative arts and ‘Surrey Schools Have Talent’ competition to look out for.
